Variable Speed Drive Compressed Air System Project
Client: Ground Effects, Ltd.
Location: Warren, Michigan
Project Overview:
Ground Effects, a Canadian company with a number of North American facilities, supplies interior and exterior components for the automotive industry. A reliable and cost-effective supply of compressed air is critical to maintaining productivity as well as reducing operational costs. At the Warren, MI facility, an Atlas Copco rotary screw variable speed compressor was installed that increased up-time, significantly reduced energy costs and ran much quieter. The existing compressor was maintained as a back-up system.
The compressor upgrade reduced monthly utility costs an average of $1,800, representing a 33% savings. Long term savings are projected to be $204,000 for 10 years and $438,200 for 20 years. The upgrade qualified for utility rebates of $5,250.
