Ultraviolet Device Proves Effective Against Superbug MRSA

January 17, 2014 by Kerry Kilpatrick Leave a Comment

You Are Protected Sticker TMStories detailing the rising rate of MRSA infections continue to lead the NEWS . MRSA is a simple way of saying the tongue twister germ defined as Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus and it is one of the more infamous “superbugs”. Superbugs are germs that have become immune to antibiotics. New solutions beyond antibiotics will be necessary to fight them.

Ultraviolet light has proven to be an effective germ fighter for over 100 years. The downside of ultraviolet is the problems associated with human exposure. The high intensity light can damage eyes and skin with prolonged contact.

American Green Technology completed clinical lab testing of a new patented product that is called the Arcalux Health Risk Management System (HRMS). It is a fully enclosed ultraviolet germ neutralizing system with zero risk of human exposure to the light.

A concentration of MRSA 800 times the level you would expect to find in a contaminated hospital setting

In a laboratory setting the ultraviolet device was installed in a sealed room in preparation for testing. A mist of MRSA was sprayed into the room at a concentration that was 800 times the level you would expect to find in a contaminated hospital setting. The results of the test were dramatic. A graph of the level of MRSA contamination shows an immediate drop and within 1 hour the superbug was 99.7% eliminated. Click  HERE to see the full lab report and the amazing graph of the results.

One of the biggest advantages of the HRMS is that it is installed in the patient rooms and waiting areas and is on duty 24/7. The system doubles as an in-ceiling fluorescent light fixture (see video). The room lighting function can be turned on and off but the ultraviolet portion works around the clock. Any setting where there is a risk of contagious disease will benefit from the constant protection against airborne germ transmission. The Energy Alliance Group, a proud partner with American Green Technology, recently introduced the Arcalux HRMS to a prominent Michigan Hospital. They are considering installing several units of this highly innovative product in key areas of their facility to protect patients, visitors as well as staff. We look forward to sharing the stories that result in future posts!
