Unique Opportunity – Lighting an Underground Grow Facility

There are many agricultural grow operations that are moving indoors with the desire to create produce all year long. There is also the motivation to control all the variables that result in healthy plants and not leave success up to the whims of the weather. The end result is hopefully increased productivity and improved profit!

As the cost of warehouse space rises, an innovative company is literally moving its grow operation underground and have expressed interest in The Energy Alliance Group’s (EAG) TotalGrow LED technology.

The company was introduced to TotalGrow last week at the Asia Pacific Innovation Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The conference covered topics ranging from Clean Energy, Defense Energy and Agriculture Innovation and was attended by 100’s of professionals from around the globe. EAG was one of only 58 company representatives selected to present innovative technologies during the conferences poster presentation exposition.

EAG’s President Scott Ringlein presented information about the patented and recently commercialized TotalGrow technology for optimum plant growth. The presentation caught the interest of Japan’s Government as well as a plant operation in Hawaii, the University of Hawaii’s Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences and a large underground grow facility that is in the planning stages.

“TotalGrow lights are designed to feed a plant exactly what it needs in the proper proportions” Jeff Maskin, TotalGrow developer

The interest in TotalGrow is due to the results of the truly innovative approach the developers took during the development phase. The result is a grow light that is extremely energy efficient and one that greatly enhances healthy plant growth.

According to developer Jeff Maskin:

“Plants get their energy from light. Different types of light are like different types of food with different costs, benefits and problems. TotalGrow lights are designed to feed a plant the exact spectrum of light it needs and in the proper proportions. Feeding a plant light from a bulb meant for human eyes is like feeding a cow’s grass to a human. Humans can’t digest grass well and it’s not balanced for our needs. Plants likewise grow the fastest and healthiest with a properly proportioned diet of the different colors of light that is emitted from the TotalGrow technology. Traditional grow lights are designed for human eyes and deliver a diet filled with inefficient colors…some light technologies convert electricity to light less efficiently, deliver the light to plants less evenly, and last for a much shorter time. In the end, what might have seemed to be a low cost bulb initially, has ultimately used double the power, required multiple bulb replacements and forced plants to work with energy they can’t use efficiently.”

The underground growing operation is looking for an extremely energy efficient light that will keep costs down while enhancing plant growth. They are looking to maximize their profitability! Those are the same factors that the developers of TotalGrow had in mind when they researched and developed the technology.

This is an unfolding story and one that we look forward to bringing to you as it develops!
