The Nobel Prize for Energy Efficiency – LED Lights

October 21, 2014 by Kerry Kilpatrick Leave a Comment

New Picture (6)“Incandescent light bulbs lit the 20th century; the 21st century will be lit by LED lamps”  The Nobel Academy

The Nobel Academy recently recognized the transformation taking place in lighting with their award of the Noble Peace Prize to the inventors of the blue LED light technology. That invention is opening up unlimited opportunities for a new, energy efficient, extremely long lifespan, lighting technology – the LED!

In addition to energy efficiency and extremely long life, another key advantage of LED lights is that they can be, with the use of specially engineered optics, customized for a variety of applications. A very important one is agricultural.

“With their increasing electrical efficiency and potential to deliver specific light spectrums, LED technology provides appealing opportunities for plant production.” Greenhouse Grower

The Energy Alliance Group is actively involved in providing LED-based supplemental lighting for the following projects:

  • Year round green house operations
  • Converting shipping containers to mobile grow houses
  • Replacing expensive high pressure sodium lights and metal halide in greenhouses
  • High yield plant factories
  • Growing produce in cities
  • Unique spectrum LEDs for specific crops

There’s no doubt LED technology will also make a very significant and meaningful contribution to saving energy:

“With 20 percent of the world’s electricity used for lighting, it’s been calculated that optimal use of LED lighting could reduce this to 4 percent.” Reuters

While the LED was being honored by the Nobel Academy The Energy Alliance Group was finalizing the details on a conversion to LED lighting by one of our clients. What is interesting to note is that the client’s deciding factor to switch to the LED was not just the low cost of energy usage, but also the extremely low cost of maintaining a product that doesn’t need to be replaced for many years.

The advantages of LED lighting are energy efficiency and long life (they can last up to 100 times longer than a typical incandescent bulb). But what is really exciting is that those advantages will inspire new processes and uses that will make for very interesting applications in the very near future.

While The Energy Alliance Group is looking forward to helping our clients use LED technology to save money and increase productivity we also want to help them create interesting business operations and products! If you would like to know more about the benefits of using LEDs in your business we invite you to take advantage of our Complimentary Energy Use Assessment. It will help you take the first step in determining if energy savings are a possibility for you!

The Energy Alliance Group (EAG) of North America is an energy solutions company providing energy saving products, technologies and services.
